Frequently Asked Questions

We always get questions from curious customers about our products, so we made a list to help guide our customers towards products that best fit their needs.

1. What ingredients do you use in your products?

Candles
We use 100% soy wax for our container candles, which comes from a natural source (soybeans), and is biodegradable and eco-friendly. Because of its density, sox wax takes a little longer to burn, which means it may take some time for the wax to release the fragrance. However, this also means that candles made with this wax have longer burn times, and produce less soot than a candle made from paraffin wax.

You may notice bumpy and cratered surfaces (along with frosting on the sides, if it's in a clear container) of a candle made from soy wax. This is purely cosmetic, and does not affect the candle's burn quality.

Paraffin wax is our go-to for pillar candles. While it's made from petroleum, it creates a clean, smooth surface when it dries. It also burns a bit more readily than soy wax. Excellent for votive candles, or candles created from silicone molds.
Soaps
The main ingredient outside of what's typically used to make soap (water, lye, colorants, fragrance oils, sodium lactate) is oil. Most of our soaps use an oil mix that consists of coconut oil, palm oil (sustainably sourced!), canola oil, olive oil, castor oil, and vitamin E. Some other soaps (e.g. our Lemon Pound Cake Soap) use an oil mix with olive oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, canola oil, castor oil, and vitamin E.
Ingredients for soap can also include animal products, such as cow's or goat's milk for soaps, and beeswax for candles. While we don't typically use these in our products, we may use different ingredients depending on the requests of customers who submit custom orders. We can help provide insight on how certain ingredients can affect different qualities of the soap.

Through our feedback surveys, we ask questions about ingredient preferences, potential irritants and allergens so that we can tailor our products to meet our community's needs and direct our customers to products that suit their needs. We'd love to hear about your preferences, so if you have a minute, please complete either our Candle Preferences Survey, or our Soap Preferences Survey

2. Do your products contain preservatives?
Nope, there's no need for preservatives in our products. The waxes, dyes, and fragrances that we use for our candles do not have any preservatives. Our soaps are all made by cold process, and the pH level achieved in the process prevents mold and bacteria growth.

3. How big are your samples?

Each candle sample is a half-ounce tealight, and its burn time is about 4-6 hours. Soap samples are good for about 2-4 thorough hand washes!

4. How do I place a custom order?

We plan on creating a custom form for people to complete once our store is open. Until then, just email info@sunshinefarmscc.com with your request, and one of us will get back to you within 1-2 business days.

If we don't have certain items in stock that are necessary for making your order, then we would need to order them, which may extend the amount of time needed to complete your order. We recommend that you let us know what your timeline is for the order so that we can plan accordingly and get it to you ASAP.

We'll send confirmation via email once we have ordered the necessary items. Once we order them, you can no longer cancel your order

5. Do you have any tips on how I can safely use my candles?

Of course! When lighting your candle, make sure that it achieves a full melted pool of wax across the surface. This usually takes about 3-4 hours.

Burn your candle away from any flammable objects.

Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Keep your candles out of reach of small children and pets.

6. What can I do to make my soap last longer?

Store soap in a space away from water. Allow it to dry completely in between uses.

Keep it away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can fade colors and discolor the soap.

7. Does your soap treat [skin condition]?

Unfortunately, neither of us are medical providers, so we can't answer this easily. We can, however, direct you to some products that contain milder ingredients that are more soothing for the skin. We strongly recommend that you reach out to a dermatologist or other skilled provider for appropriate skin treatment.
